Fan-tailed Cuckoo - Cacomantis flabelliformis
In early spring I heard the trilled calls of this Fan-tailed Cuckoo echoing through the bush. Following the musical trill, I eventually spotted the singer perched on a small branch with the sun shining through the trees illuminating the performer like a spotlight. After taking some great reference photos I enjoyed listening in silence for a few minutes and managed to hear the faint calls of a reply coming from somewhere off in the distant bush. I enjoyed capturing the light and shadow in this painting and when I view this little bird, I can hear its trill calling in my mind.
