Scarlet Honeyeaters - Myzomela sanguinolenta
This lovely pair of Scarlet Honeyeater were spotted at Walka Water Works in Maitland, NSW. Feeding amongst the red bottlebrush I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to capture a clear and focused photo of them together as they darted from one flower to another. Having failed to do so, through the magic of sketching I was finally able to unite them together in this painting! I love the vibrant colours of the male against the bottlebrush, however the blushing cheek markings of the lady gives her a more subtle grace.
