Tasmanian Grey Goshawk (White Morph) - Tachyspiza novaehollandiae
Original artwork, oil on stretched canvas 50.8 x 60.9cm, professionally framed to measure a full 56.8 x 65.9 × 2.5cm.
This impressive bird of prey is a Tasmanian Grey Goshawk perched high atop the canopy of a Tasmanian Blue Gum scanning the ground below with those bright keen eyes. Sadly, these beautiful predators are classified as endangered in Tasmania with a population currently estimated as less than 110 breeding pairs. I really enjoyed painting this piece with the bright blue sky, the white feathers glowing in the strong sun and that bright predatory red eye searching with menace.
